Kasky. GOOD is a quarterly magazine made for, and by, people who want live well by doing good. The framework for the design, originally created by Scott Stowel's Open studio, is versatile and elegant. With each issue, we slightly tailor the typography and graphic style to the theme. We also work with a bevy off talented illustrators, artists and photographers in each issue.<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0194_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0194_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0164_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0164_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/May 10- 2011 - 090_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/May 10- 2011 - 090_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0167_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0167_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0169_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0169_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0179_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0179_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0181_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0181_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/May 10- 2011 - 100_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/May 10- 2011 - 100_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/May 10- 2011 - 116_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/May 10- 2011 - 116_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0184_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0184_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0185_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0185_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0189_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0189_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0196_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0196_o.jpg" align="left" /> <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0201_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="572" width_o="860" height_o="572" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/1537358/DSC_0201_o.jpg" align="left" /> This issue, which examines cities from the perspective of L.A., holds a special place in my heart. Creative Director Kirk Souder and GOOD/Corps lead Sebastian Buck asked Altey G. Kasky and I to create a website that retained GOOD's considerable design equity but also focused in on their innovative cause-based take on a traditional agency.

We built the site on the Cargo platform for maximum flexibility. The GOOD/Corps site may be one of the most innovative uses of that platform yet. With the help of Cargo front-end developer John-Kyle Mohr, we built a completely customized site that can be edited using the Cargo interface. The animated scrolling works via HTML5 and all of the fonts, including GOOD’s signature Trade Gothic, are embedded webfonts.

The exhibition focuses on the running craze and the beginnings of Nike, but also includes commissioned artworks by contemporary artists and a modular graphic environment created to transport and immerses the viewer into the culture of the 1970s. The overall experience covers many of the important cultural phenomena from the period including punk, disco, biker gangs, Playboy Magazine, Exile on Main Street and the women’s lib movement. <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/337102/new_grid2_860_860.jpg" border="0" width="860" height="537" width_o="860" height_o="537" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/27549/337102/new_grid2_860_o.jpg" align="left" />

The film is directed by Aaron Rose, and was released in 2008. I was hired by Mr. Rose to design all graphic materials for the film. This included theatrical posters, festival promotion, events and co-sponsored materials. The film's release was supported by Nike, and it's dvd release comes from the Beastie Boys' Ocilliscope productions.Watch it on Netflix

I worked with my frequent collaborator Atley G. Kasky to art direct and design the issue, with additional design support from GOOD's senior editorial designer Dylan C.
